--Cabinet OKs INR 65.2 bln for PM Krishi Sampada Yojana
NEW DELHI – The Union Cabinet has approved an additional outlay of INR 19.2 billion for the ongoing Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, taking the total outlay for the scheme to INR 65.2 billion. The outlay was set for the 15th Finance Commission Cycle from 2021-22 to 2025-26, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries said in a release Thursday.
The additional outlay of INR 19.2 billion includes INR 10 billion to support the setting up of 50 multi-product food irradiation units and 100 food testing labs, and INR 9.20 billion for sanctioning projects under various component schemes of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana during the 15th Finance Commission Cycle, the release said.
The food irradiation units will be established under the component scheme of Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure, and food testing labs with national accreditation will be set up under the component scheme of Food Safety and Quality Assurance Infrastructure. Both schemes are demand-driven component schemes of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, it added.
The proposed 50 multi-product food irradiation units are expected to create a total preservation capacity of 2.0-3.0 million tonnes per annum. The food testing laboratories in the private sector will ensure compliance with food safety standards and supply of safe food. End
