India gets 28% above-normal rainfall at 11.4 mm on Wednesday, says IMD

MUMBAI - India received 11.4 millimetres of rainfall Wednesday, 28% above the normal 8.9 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received above-normal showers and two recorded below-normal rainfall during the day.
Northwest India recorded 81% above normal showers at 12.8 millimetres and central India received 49% above normal rainfall at 15.8 millimetres. The southern peninsula received 2 millimetres of rainfall, 69% below normal, the data showed. Rainfall in eastern and northeast India was 9% below normal at 10.6 millimetres, according to the data.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall Wednesday was "large excess" in six, of which four belong to northwest India. Rainfall was "excess" in four, "normal" in nine, and "deficient" in five. Showers were "large deficient" in 12 sub-divisions, of which seven belong to the southern Peninsula, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 467.8 millimetres of rainfall, 7% above normal for the period, the data showed. End
