India week to Wed rainfall 19% above normal at 78.8 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 78.8 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 19% above the normal of 66.3 millimetres for the week, according to the India Meteorological Department. Rainfall was more than the long-period average in two of the four homogeneous regions and below average in the other two, the weather bureau said.
In south Peninsula, rainfall was 4% above average at 49.9 millimetres during the week, data from the bureau showed. Rainfall was 52% above the long-period average in central India at 117.1 millimetres. Rainfall was 2% below the long-period average in east and northeast India at 88.3 millimetres. In northwest India, rainfall was 5% below the average at 50.5 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in five, "excess" in six, "normal" in 13, and "deficient" in nine. Three subdivisions received "large deficient" rainfall during the week. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 7% above normal rainfall at 467.8 millimetres, as per the data. End
