Global alumina production in June down 3% on month, says Aluminium Institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production fell 3% on month to 12.15 million tonnes in June, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. On a yearly basis, alumina output was down slightly from 12.17 million tonnes.

 

The average daily global alumina production rose to 404,900 tonnes in June from a revised 404,200 tonnes in May, the data showed. Alumina production in China was 7.20 million tonnes in June, down nearly 3% on month. The country's output, which accounted for nearly 60% of global alumina production, was up around 1% from a year ago, the data showed.

 

In the Oceania region, alumina output declined 6% on month to 1.34 million tonnes in June. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production fell to 1.22 million tonnes last month from 1.24 million tonnes in May. In Europe, production fell by 3,000 tonnes to 627,000 tonnes in June and the output in South America declined to 989,000 tonnes in June from 1.03 million tonnes in May, the data showed.

 

According to the data, global production of primary aluminium fell over 3% on month to 6.05 million tonnes in June. At 1419 IST, the most-active August aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was 0.2% higher at INR 253.90 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was 0.1% higher at $2,607.0 per tonne.  End
