MUMBAI – Blue Dart Express Ltd.'s net profit and revenue for the June quarter were below analysts' expectations. While the increase in expenses was almost the same as revenue growth in absolute terms, the company's net profit fell primarily because of a sharp rise in other expenses during the reporting quarter.

The company reported a drop of nearly 9% on year in net profit to INR 469.3 million. Analysts had estimated the company's net profit to be INR 624.5 million. Sequentially, the net profit was down almost 12%. The revenue from operations was INR 14.42 billion, up 7.4% on year and up 1.7% on quarter, but marginally lower than analysts' estimate of INR 14.57 billion. The company's total income for Apr-Jun also increased 7.4% on year and 1.7% on quarter to INR 14.63 billion.

Blue Dart's main cost--freight, handling, and servicing--rose to INR 10.19 billion, up 7.5% on year and 1.5% on quarter. Its total expenses were INR 13.99 billion, up 8.3% on year and up 2.9% on quarter. The company's other expenses rose sharply to INR 1.21 billion, up nearly 21% on year and up 6.3% on quarter. The company's depreciation and amortisation cost fell to INR 504.6 million, down 3.5% on year and down 4.5% on quarter.

Blue Dart appointed Sagar Patil as chief financial officer effective Friday. Patil was the interim CFO of the company until now. Tuesday, shares of the company closed at INR 6,473 on the National Stock Exchange, down 1.2% from its previous close. The company announced its earnings after market hours.  End
