India gets 8% below normal rainfall at 8.6 mm on Tuesday, says IMD

MUMBAI - India received 8.6 millimetres of rainfall on Tuesday, 8% below the normal of 9.4 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received above-normal showers and two recorded below-normal rainfall during the day.
The southern peninsula received 1.2 millimetres of rainfall, 82% below the normal of 6.8 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was 5% below normal at 10.2 millimetres while in northwest India it was 2% above normal at 7.7 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 18% above normal at 16.3 millimetres, according to the data.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Tuesday was "large excess" in seven, "excess" or "normal" in three each, "deficient" in eight, and "large deficient" in 14, data from the department showed. One subdivision did not receive rain on Tuesday. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 456.4 millimetres of rainfall, 7% above normal for the period, the data showed. End
