--Govt extends MoSPI Secretary Saurabh Garg's term by 1 year till Jul 2026
NEW DELHI – The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has extended the tenure of Statistics Secretary Saurabh Garg by one year till Jul. 31, 2026. Garg, who is a retired Indian Administrative Officer from the Odisha cadre, has been serving on a contract basis. Garg will also be the secretary of the National Statistical Commission, the Department of Personnel and Training said in a notification Tuesday.
The government had appointed Garg as statistics secretary in May 2024. Garg was previously secretary of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment. He was also the chief executive officer of the Unique Identification Authority of India between 2021 and 2023. He holds a doctorate in International Economics and Development from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. End
