NEW DELHI – US President Donald Trump Monday said the US will impose a baseline tariff of 15-20% on countries who have not negotiated separate trade deals with Washington. "For the world, I would say it'll be somewhere in the 15 to 20% range. Probably, one of those two numbers", Trump said while addressing the media in Scotland.

The US in April levied a 10?seline tariff on its trading partners even as Trump has put the reciprocal tariffs on hold till Aug. 1. The US has signed several trade deals since April, including with Japan, the UK, the European Union, Indonesia, among others.

India and the US are negotiating a bilateral trade agreement and hope to conclude an interim deal before the Aug. 1 deadline. Trump has previously said the US and India are very close to a trade deal. A delegation from the US will visit New Delhi in the second half of August for the next round of negotiations for the proposed trade deal, Informist reported last week.

Trump Monday said that the US will set a tariff for the rest of the world, and "that's what they're going to pay if they want to do business in the United States, because you can't sit down and make 200 deals."

The US will also announce pharmaceutical tariffs "sometime in the very near future", Trump said.  End
