Sharp fall in inventory cost boosts KEC Intl's Apr-Jun PAT

MUMBAI – KEC International Ltd.'s June quarter net profit met analysts' expectation while its revenue missed estimates by a small margin. The company's sharply reduced inventory cost was the main reason for its sharp profit growth.
KEC International reported a consolidated net profit of INR 1.25 billion, up 42.3% on year but down 53.5% on quarter. This is in line with analysts' estimate of INR 1.22 billion. The company's cost of inventory and work in progress fell INR 2.15 billion in the reporting quarter, a sharp improvement from a fall of a mere INR 22.3 million a year ago. The company's consolidated net profit margin increased to 2.5%, up 60 basis points on year.
The company's consolidated revenue for the June quarter was INR 50.23 billion, up 11.3% on year but down 27% on quarter. This is marginally lower than analysts' estimate of INR 50.95 billion. The company's other income in the quarter under review was INR 53.90 million, down 87.5% on year and 73.3% on quarter. The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation rose to INR 3.50 billion, up 19% on year. The EBITDA margin rose 50 bps on year to 7.0%.
On the expenses side, the company's cost of raw material rose sharply to INR 24.61 billion, up 37% on year. The company's tax expenses also rose to INR 339.1 million, up 38.6% on year but down 54.1% on quarter.
The company reported an year-to-date order intake of INR 55.17 billion, primarily from the transmission and distribution segment and civil business. Its net debt including acceptances was INR 53.48 billion as on Jun. 30, down INR 2.5 billion on year. The company's most rewarding transmission and distribution business reported 30% growth on year. Its renewables segment grew 87% on year.
Monday, shares of KEC International closed slightly higher at INR 863.75. The company announced its earnings after market hours. End
