India receives 23% below normal rainfall at 7.7 mm on Monday, says IMD

MUMBAI - India received 7.7 millimetres rainfall on Monday, 23% below the normal of 10.0 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, one received above-normal showers and three recorded below-normal rainfall.
The southern peninsula recorded 1.9 millimetres of rainfall, 72% below the normal of 6.7 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was 27% below normal at 8.5 millimetres. Northwest India received 18% below normal showers at 7.2 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 11% above-normal at 14.5 millimetres, according to the data.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall on Monday was "large excess" in four, "excess" in three, "normal" in four, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in 18, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 447.8 millimetres of rainfall, 7% above normal for the period, the data showed. End
