India receives 70% above-normal rainfall at 16.1 mm on Saturday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 16.1 millimetres rainfall on Saturday, 70% above the normal of 9.5 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. All the four homogeneous regions in the country received above-normal showers.

 

The southern peninsula recorded 12.4 millimetres of rainfall, 78% above the normal of 7.0 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was a whopping 127% above normal at 25.2 millimetres. Northwest India received 3% above normal showers at 7.8 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 35% above-normal at 17.4 millimetres, according to the data.

 

Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall on Saturday was "large excess" in 17, "excess" in two, "normal" in five, "deficient" in eight, and "large deficient" in four, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 426.4 millimetres of rainfall, 7% above normal for the period, the data showed.  End
