NEW DELHI – India's marine exports to the UK may rise 70% in the coming years after the two nations agreed to a free trade agreement earlier this week, the ministry of fisheries said in a release. India's marine exports to the UK were $104 million in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), the release said.
India's marine exports will now attract 0% tariffs in the UK, against 0.00-21.5% earlier. This will help India expand its market share in the UK, which was only 2.25%, the release said. India's seafood exports to the UK include Vannamei shrimp, black tiger shrimp, frozen squid, lobsters, and frozen pomfret. Around 80% of the export value from India to the UK in FY25 were from frozen shrimp.
Nearly 100% of India's exports to the UK will get a duty-free market access under the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement signed Thursday between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his UK counterpart Keir Starmer. Under the free trade agreement, India has committed to cut duty on 90% tariff lines while the UK would slash duty on 99% tariff lines. End
