India receives 9% above-normal rainfall at 10.3 mm on Friday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 10.3 millimetres rainfall on Friday, 9% above the normal of 9.4 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received below-normal rainfall and two recorded above-normal showers.
The southern peninsula recorded 10.3 millimetres of rainfall, 43% above the normal of 7.2 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was 65% above normal at 18.0 millimetres. Northwest India received 76% below normal showers at 1.8 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 19% below-normal at 10.2 millimetres, according to the data.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall on Friday was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in five, "normal" in three, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in 12, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 410.2 millimetres of rainfall, 5% above normal for the period, the data showed. End
