HYDERABAD - The Expert Appraisal Committee of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has approved the proposed capacity expansion plan for Coromandel International Ltd.'s Kakinada plant, according to a document reviewed by Informist.
The Murugappa Group company plans to increase its complex and mixed fertiliser production capacity to 3.25 million tonnes a year from the current 3 million tonnes at its manufacturing facility in Vakalapudi village, Kakinada district, Andhra Pradesh. The Kakinada plant spans over 562 acres, and the company will carry out the expansion adjacent to the existing facility, the document said.
Coromandel International expects over INR 21 billion of capital expenditure on the proposed expansion plan, but doesn't expect any increase in its manpower, which is at nearly 2,800 now.
The Kakinada facility manufactures nitrogen and phosphorus (NP), nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK), and diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilisers – macronutrients that are essential for plant growth. Besides mixed fertilisers, the company also makes nano urea at Kakinada.
At 1231 IST, shares of Coromandel International were at INR 2,425.60 on the National Stock Exchange, almost flat from the previous close. End
