India week to Wed rainfall 14% below normal at 57.3 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 57.3 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 14% below the normal of 66.7 millimetres for the week, according to the India Meteorological Department. Rainfall was more than the long-period average in two of the four homogeneous regions and below average in the rest, the weather bureau said.
In south Peninsula, rainfall was 47% above average at 71.8 millimetres during the week, data from the bureau showed. Rainfall was 6% above the long-period average in northwest India at 53.8 millimetres. However, rainfall was 44% below the long-period average in east and northeast India at 54.0 millimetres. In central India, rainfall was 31% below the average at 53.6 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in six, "excess" in five, "normal" in nine, and "deficient" in 13. Three subdivisions received "large deficient" rainfall during the week. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 5% above normal rainfall at 389.1 millimetres, as per the data. End
