--Air India: No issues found with fuel control switch locking mechanism

NEW DELHI – Tata group-owned Air India Tuesday said that it has completed precautionary inspections of the locking mechanisms of fuel control switches on all its Boeing 787 and Boeing 737 aircraft, and found no issues with them. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation had asked airlines to carry out an inspection after a preliminary report indicated that fuel switch lock may have had a role to play in the crash of Boeing 787 on Jun. 12.

"Air India had started voluntary inspections on 12 July and completed them within the prescribed time limit set by the DGCA," the airline said in a release. The regulator had asked airlines to complete their investigations into the issue by Monday this week.

The Boeing 737 aircraft are part of Air India's low-cost subsidiary Air India Express. Following the crash, which killed 260 people, the regulator had given a clean chit to Air India's Boeing 787 fleet, and said that its surveillance did not reveal any major safety concern.  End
