MUMBAI – India received 7.6 millimetres of rainfall Monday, 21% below the normal 9.6 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received below-normal rainfall while two recorded above-normal showers.
The southern peninsula recorded 43% above-normal rainfall at 10.3 millimetres, the data showed. Northwest India received 7% above-normal rains at 7.6 millimetres. Rainfall in central India was 43% below normal at 6.5 millimetres. Rainfall over eastern and northeast India was 6.5 millimetres, 52% below the normal of 13.6 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in one, "normal" in four, "deficient" in 10, and "large deficient" in 12 subdivisions. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 374 millimetres of rain, 6% above the normal rainfall for the period, the data showed. End
