IMD sees very heavy rains in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand till Tue

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast very heavy rainfall over parts of northwest India. Parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in northwest India are likely to receive very heavy rainfall till Tuesday, the weather agency said. The department has also issued a red alert for very heavy rainfall in Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, and Dehradun districts of Uttarakhand on Monday.

 

Parts of Jammu-Kashmir and Punjab are also likely to receive very heavy rainfall on Monday, IMD said. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected over parts of west India till Sunday. Parts of Konkan, Goa, and ghat areas of central Maharashtra in west India are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall till Sunday and heavy rainfall is expected over Marathawada on Monday and Gujarat on Monday and over the weekend, the weather department said.

 

In the southern part of the country, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely till Sunday. Parts of Kerala, Mahe, and south interior Karnataka are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday and from Friday to Sunday. Similar weather is seen in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on Monday, in Telangana on Tuesday and Wednesday and in coastal Karnataka till Sunday. The department also sees heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu till Tuesday. Strong surface winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kilometres per hour are very likely over south peninsular India during the next five days, it said.

 

The weather bureau also expects very heavy rainfall over parts of eastern and central India till Sunday. Very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh till Sunday. Similar weather conditions are also likely over Vidarbha and Jharkhand on Thursday and Friday and in Chhattisgarh and Odisha from Wednesday to Saturday, the weather agency said.  End
