Urban cooperative banks total losses at INR 8.85 bln in FY25, says fin min

NEW DELHI – Urban cooperative banks reported total losses of INR 8.85 billion in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said Monday in his written reply to a Lok Sabha question. In the same period, these banks reported operating expenses of INR 17.14 billion.

 

In FY24, urban cooperative banks reported total losses of INR 12.36 billion, the minister said. The same was INR 14.68 billion in the previous year.

 

The minister said National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and the Reserve Bank of India have taken several measures to improve the financial health of state cooperative banks, district central cooperative banks and urban cooperative banks. Steps are taken to review and monitor financial parameters, business diversification, governance, cost rationalisation, human resource development and technology adoption.

 

Chaudhary also said that the RBI has increased housing loan limit for individuals and increased lending to remunerative areas in the non-priority sector.  End
