Mumbai airport issues passenger advisory in view of heavy rains over city

MUMBAI – The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, has issued a passenger advisory in view of the heavy rains forecast over the city and its suburbs on Monday. The airport has requested passengers to connect with their respective airlines and check the status of their flights before leaving for the airport, it said in a post on social media site X.
The India Meteorological Department's Mumbai regional centre has issued an orange alert for moderate to heavy rainfall over Mumbai and its suburbs for Monday. According to the centre's nowcast, the orange alert will be valid for the next three to four hours. An orange alert is issued when rainfall exceeds 115.6 millimetres and goes up to 204.4 millimetres within 24 hours.
Satellite images show a large formation of dense clouds approaching the city from the west coast, which is likely to increase the spread and intensity of rainfall further over the region. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely over parts of the city and its suburbs in the next 24 hours, the weather agency said.
In the past 24 hours, Mumbai's Santacruz and Colaba weather stations recorded a whopping 114.6 millimetres and 11.2 millimetres of rainfall, respectively. End
