India rainfall on Sunday 19% below normal at 7.8 mm

MUMBAI – India received 7.8 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 19% below the normal 9.6 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received below-normal rainfall on Sunday, while one recorded above-normal showers.

 

The southern peninsula recorded 19% above normal rainfall at 8.1 millimetres, the data showed. Central India received 36% below-normal rains at 6.7 millimetres. Rainfall in northwest India was 31% below normal at 5.2 millimetres. Rainfall over east and northeast India was 14.5 millimetres, 4% below the normal of 15.2 millimetres, data showed.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in six, "excess" in five, "normal" in nine, "deficient" in three, and "large deficient" in 11 subdivisions. Two subdivisions received no rainfall on Sunday, data from the department showed.

 

From Jun. 1-Jul. 20, the country has received 366.4 millimetres of rain, 7% above the normal rainfall for the period, the data showed.  End
