NEW DELHI – India received 8.6 millimetres of rain Saturday, 8% below the normal of 9.4 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received below-normal rainfall and two recorded above-normal showers.
Southern peninsular India received 44% above normal showers Saturday at 9 millimetres, according to data from the weather bureau. Rainfall in northwest India was 77% above normal at 12.7 millimetres. Rainfall in central India was 48% below normal at 5.6 millimetres. Showers over eastern and northeast India were 55% below normal at 6.5 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall Saturday was "large excess" in six, "excess" in six, "normal" in one, "deficient" in 10, and "large deficient" in 13, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 358.7 millimetres of rainfall, 8% above normal for the period, the data showed. End
