NEW DELHI/MUMBAI – Reliance Industries Ltd.'s retail arm Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd. reported a consolidated revenue of INR 841.72 billion for the June quarter, 11% higher on year. The segment's profit for the quarter grew 28% on year to INR 32.71 billion.
Consolidated earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation of the segment for the latest quarter was INR 63.81 billion, up 13% on year. "All segments performed well, with market leading performance in grocery and fashion," the company said in a press release. The company attributed the double-digit increase in the segment's EBITDA to strategic initiatives, operating leverage, and cost discipline.
Reliance Retail's revenue from operations for the quarter was INR 737.20 billion, up 11.3% on year. Its EBITDA margin for the June quarter stood at 8.7%, 20 basis points higher on year. The EBITDA margin is calculated on the basis of revenue from operations.
"Retail's business performance registered customer base expanded to 358 million, along with significant improvement across operating metrics," said Reliance Industries' Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani. "We are focusing on strengthening the portfolio of own FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) brands, which resonate with the tastes of Indian consumers."
Reliance Retail opened 388 new stores during the quarter, taking the overall count to 19,592 stores as of Jun. 30. The area under operation for the business was 77.6 million square feet as of Jun. 30, nearly 5% lower on year.
FASHION BUSINESS
Reliance Retail said its fashion and lifestyle business registered a growth in revenue and EBITDA for the June quarter driven by new store formats and brand performance. The company focused more on expanding non-apparel categories such as footwear, beauty and personal care, and accessories.
Ajio's new customers' revenue share reached 18% during the June quarter, up 150 bps on year. Average bill value grew 17% on year. Ajio's product catalogue expanded to over 2.6 million options in the June quarter, up 44% on year. Ajio Luxe, its premium offering, expanded its catalogue by 17% on year during the latest quarter.
The company's jewellery business saw its average bill value increasing 47% on year in Apr-Jun. Its consumer electronics segment's average bill value rose 26% on year and conversions were up 200 bps on year. The sale of air conditioners and consumer electronics and devices was affected due to the early onset of monsoon. The service centre network expanded 31% on year to 1,621 locations. Revenue from the company's consumer products segment doubled on year to INR 44 billion for the quarter.
Conglomerate Reliance Industries reported a sharp 78% on-year rise in its consolidated net profit to INR 269.94 billion for the quarter. This was significantly higher than the average of estimates by 10 brokerages of INR 199.54 billion. Its consolidated revenue for the reporting quarter rose slightly to INR 2.487 trillion from INR 2.362 trillion a year ago.
The company declared its June quarter results after market hours Friday. RIL's shares closed slightly lower at INR 1,476 on the National Stock Exchange on Friday. End
