MUMBAI – India received 8.9 millimetres of rain Friday, 3% below the normal of 9.2 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received below-normal rainfall and two recorded above-normal showers.
South peninsular India received 52% above normal showers at 10.3 millimetres, according to data from the weather bureau. Rainfall in northwest India was 30% above normal at 9.0 millimetres. Meanwhile, rainfall in central India was 10% below normal at 9.7 millimetres. Showers over east and northeast India were 60% below normal at 5.3 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall Friday was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in two, "normal" in one, "deficient" in 13, and "large deficient" in 11, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 350.1 millimetres of rainfall, 8% above normal for the period, the data showed. End
