MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department said a low pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal around Thursday. The weather department also issued a red alert in Kerala till Sunday due to extremely heavy rainfall. A red alert indicates rainfall exceeding 204.5 millimetres in 24 hours and is the highest level of weather warning.

 

Extremely heavy rainfall is likely over coastal Karnataka for Friday, the weather bureau said. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of southern India till Thursday. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, north interior Karnataka, and Rayalaseema are likely to receive heavy rainfall during the first half of the next week. 

 

In north India, the weather bureau said the depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh is likely to move west-northwest across northwest Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan and gradually weaken into a low pressure area during the next 24 hours.

 

Extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand on Sunday and Monday, while it is likely over parts of Rajasthan on Friday. The weather bureau also issued a red alert in Rajasthan for Friday. There is also an upper cyclonic circulation over central parts of Pakistan. Very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of northwest India till Wednesday. 

 

The weather bureau also said there is another upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam which is likely to cause heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura till Tuesday.

On Saturday, very heavy rainfall is likely over Meghalaya, it said.  End
