--IMD: India Jun 1-Jul 17 rainfall at 341.1 mm, 9% above normal

 

NEW DELHI – India received 9.2 millimetres of rain Thursday, 5% below the normal of 9.7 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received below-normal rainfall and two recorded above-normal showers.

 

South peninsular India received 48% above normal showers at 11.6 millimetres, according to the weather bureau data. Rainfall in northwest India was 2% above normal at 7.8 millimetres. Meanwhile, rainfall in central India was 25% below normal at 8.0 millimetres. Showers over east and northeast India were 14% below normal at 11.6 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Thursday was "large excess" in eight, "excess" in four, "normal" in eight, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in nine, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 341.1 millimetres of rainfall, 9% above normal for the period, the data showed.  End
