India gets 11% below normal rainfall at 58.1 mm in week to Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 58.1 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 11% below the normal of 65.1 millimetres for the week, according to the India Meteorological Department. One of the four homogeneous regions received more rainfall than the long-period average while the remaining got below-average showers, the weather bureau said.

 

Rainfall was 31% above normal at 67.1 millimetres in northwest India due to continuous heavy showers over the region during the week. In central India, rainfall was 13% below average at 62.6 millimetres during the week, data from the bureau showed. Rainfall was 30% below the long-period average in east and northeast India at 70.4 millimetres. Rainfall over south India was 44% below the long-period average at 26.2 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in five, "excess" in four, "normal" in five, and "deficient" in 13. Nine subdivisions received "large deficient" rainfall during the week.

 

From Jun. 1 to Jul. 16, the country has received 9% above normal rainfall at 331.9 millimetres, as per data from the IMD.  End
