Trump says another deal coming up 'maybe' with India, "we're in negotiation"

MUMBAI – US President Donald Trump late Wednesday said a trade deal is probably coming up with India. "We have made a lot of deals, we had announced one yesterday, we have one coming up maybe with India. I don't know, we're in negotiation," Trump told media after a bilateral meeting with Bahrain Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.
"We've already brought in over a $100 billion. We are bringing in hundreds of billions of dollars and tariffs haven't kicked in much other than automobiles and steel," Trump said. He also said the US is going to send letters to over 150 countries and that "it's going to be the same for everyone". "They are not big countries and they don't do that much business (with the US)."
Trump's comments come ahead of the extended deadline for reciprocal tariffs that will come into effect from Aug. 1 instead of the previous deadline of Jul. 9. India and the US are holding the fifth round of talks in Washington and are working on the proposed bilateral trade agreement. The US secured an initial trade agreement with Indonesia, under which it will impose a 19% tariff on Indonesian goods entering the US.
Earlier this month, Trump had struck a similar deal with Vietnam, imposing a 20% tariff on imports from the Asian country while the US will have free access to this nation. However, Vietnam had agreed for an 11% tariff, not 20%, as per reports. End
