India Apr-Jun natural gas import bill falls 3%, import volume rises 4.6%

MUMBAI – India's natural gas import bill in the first three months of 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) fell nearly 3% on year to $3.7 billion, according to a report by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell. In terms of volume, gas imports in Apr-Jun rose 4.6% on year to 8.7 billion standard cubic metres.

 

The country's natural gas import bill in June declined 7.1% on year to $1.3 billion, the report showed. Natural gas imports in terms of volume rose 26.1% on year to 3.0 billion standard cubic metres in June.

 

Domestic natural gas production fell 3% on year to 2.90 billion standard cubic metres in June and production in Apr-Jun fell 3% on year to 8.7 billion standard cubic metres. In June, the country's import dependency rose to 51.2% from 44.7% in the year-ago period, the data showed.

 

Meanwhile, the country's consumption of natural gas in June increased over 11% on year to 5.9 billion standard cubic metres and consumption of natural gas in Apr-Jun rose 0.5% to 17.4 billion standard cubic metres, the data showed.  End
