MUMBAI – India received 8.4 millimetres of rain Wednesday, 16% below the normal of 10.0 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received below-normal rainfall while one recorded above-normal showers.
Northwest India received 7.8 millimetres of rainfall, which was 2% below normal, according to the data. Rainfall in central India was 33% below normal at 7.9 millimetres. Showers over south peninsular India continued to remain deficient by 46% at 3.8 millimetres. However, east and northeast India received 14% above normal showers at 16.1 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Wednesday was "large excess" in four, "excess" in two, "normal" in six, "deficient" in 17, and "large deficient" in seven, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 331.9 millimetres of rainfall, 9% above normal for the period, the data showed. End
