NEW DELHI – The Union Cabinet Wednesday approved an outlay of INR 240.00 billion per annum for the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana to enhance agricultural productivity in 100 districts. The scheme converges 36 existing schemes across 11 departments and will run for six years starting in the current financial year. The scheme gives effect to an announcement made in the Budget for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar).

The aim of the scheme is to boost agricultural productivity, promote crop diversification, and encourage sustainable agricultural practices, the government said in a release. It also aims to augment post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block levels, improve irrigation facilities, and facilitate availability of long- and short-term credit.

The government will identify the 100 districts to be covered under the scheme based on low productivity, low cropping intensity, and less credit disbursement. "The number of districts in each state/Union territory will be based on the share of Net Cropped Area and operational holdings," it said in the release. "However, a minimum of 1 (one) district will be selected from each state."

The scheme, which is expected to benefit 17 million farmers, has emerged from the NITI Aayog's Aspirational District Programme and is the first of its kind focusing exclusively on agriculture and allied sectors, it added.  End
