NEW DELHI – Tata Group-owned Air India Tuesday said it will partially restore certain flight operations after a safety pause following the crash of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft in Ahmedabad in June, which claimed the lives of over 260 people, including 241 passengers and crew. "That pause enabled Air India to perform additional precautionary checks on its Boeing 787 aircraft as well as accommodate longer flying times arising from airspace closures over Pakistan and the Middle East (West Asia)," the company said in a statement.
Services will be partially resumed from Aug. 1 at certain frequencies. Full resumption is expected from Oct. 1, the company said. Flights between Amritsar and London, Goa and London, Bengaluru and Singapore, and Pune and Singapore will continue to be suspended until Sept. 30. Following the partial restoration, Air India will operate 525 international flights per week on 63 short, long, and ultra long-haul routes.
On Jun. 19, Air India had said it would cut 38 international flights per week and suspend services on three overseas routes between Jun. 21 and Tuesday, according to media reports. It temporarily reduced by 15% the number of flights operated with wide-body aircraft. End
