Labour minister meets states on employment-linked incentive scheme rollout

NEW DELHI – Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Monday met state labour and industry ministers to discuss the implementation modalities of the Centre's employment-linked incentive scheme. The Centre and state governments also discussed collaborative strategies for the effective rollout of scheme, the labour ministry said in a release.
At the meeting, states assured cooperation in the implementation of the jobs scheme. Mandaviya said states may consider linking of their respective employment-oriented schemes with the objectives of the Centre's scheme.
The Union Cabinet earlier this month approved the employment-linked incentive scheme to increase job creation in the country. The scheme is expected to created more than 35 million jobs in two years and has an outlay of INR 994.46 billion. The scheme has two parts, one focussing on first time employees, and another on employers.
The first-time employees registered with Employees' Provident Fund Organisation and with salaries up to INR 100,000 will get one month's wage up to INR 15,000 in two instalments under the scheme. In the second part of the scheme, employers will get incentives for a period to two years for generating additional employment, with extended benefits for another two years for the manufacturing sector.
