India Sun rainfall 35% below normal at 5.7 mm; 10% above normal since Jun 1

MUMBAI – India received 5.7 millimetres of rainfall Sunday, 35% below the normal 8.8 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. All four homogeneous regions of the country received below-normal rainfall on Sunday.
Central India received 8% below-normal rains at 9.0 millimetres, the data showed. Northwest India recorded 5.5 millimetres of rainfall, 21% below the normal of 7.0 millimetres. Southern peninsular India got 61% below normal at 2.4 millimetres. Rains were the most scanty over eastern and northeast India with just 3.5 millimetres, 73% below the normal of 13.2 millimetres, data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in three, "excess" in one, "normal" in six, "deficient" in eight, and "large deficient" in 18, data from the department showed.
Since Jun. 1, the country has received 302.6 millimetres of rain, 10% above the normal rainfall for the period, the data showed. End
