NEW DELHI – India received 7.8 millimetres of rainfall Saturday, 14 below the normal 9.1 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Two homogeneous regions of the country received below-normal rainfall and the other two received above-normal rainfall on Saturday.
On Saturday, central India received 13% above-normal rains at 10.6 millimetres, the data showed. Northwest India recorded 8.9 millimetres of rainfall, 19% above the normal.
Southern peninsular India got 24% below normal at 5.3 millimetres. Rains were the most scanty over eastern and northeast India with just 2.8 millimetres, nearly 81% below the normal of 14.7 millimetres, data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" and "excess" in three each, "normal" in six, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in 17, data from the department showed.
Since Jun. 1, the country has received 297.0 millimetres of rain, 11% above the normal rainfall for the period, the data showed. End
