IMD sees very heavy rains over Madhya Pradesh till Mon, issues crop advisory

NEW DELHI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast very heavy rainfall over Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and north Gujarat till Monday. Madhya Pradesh is likely to get isolated heavy rains over the state till Friday. Amid heavy rainfall, the met department has issued advisories to farmers to protect their kharif crops.

 

"Drain out excess water from rice nurseries and fields of soybean, maize, and vegetables in Kymore plateau and Satpura hill zone of Madhya Pradesh, and from rice nurseries and sugarcane in Central Narmada Valley Zone," IMD said. 

 

It has also asked farmers to ensure proper drainage facilities in the fields of maize, soybean, cotton, black gram, and vegetables. "In the central Narmada valley zone, avoid sowing of soybean and maize crops till cessation of heavy rains," it added. 

 

Amid heavy rains, IMD has issued warnings about the risk of low to moderate flash floods over a few watersheds and neighbourhoods east and west of Madhya Pradesh in the next 24 hours. The districts with flash flood risk in east Madhya Pradesh are Anuppur, Balaghat, Chhindwara, Chhattarpur,  Damoh, Dindori, Jabalpur, Katni, Mandla, Narshimapura, Sagar, Satna, Seoni, Shahdol, Sidhi, and Umaria districts. 

 

In west Madhya Pradesh, the risk is likely over Agar-Malwa, Ashoknagar, Betul, Bhopal, Dewas, Dhar, Guna, Raisen, Rajgarh, Sehore, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Ujjain, Videsha, Mandsaur, Nimach, and Hoshangabad districts, IMD said. 

 

Since Jun. 1, Madhya Pradesh has received 70% above normal rainfall at 392.6 millimeters. East Madhya Pradesh recorded the second-highest rainfall so far after Konkan and Goa, where the total rainfall since Jun. 1 was 1,147.8 millimetres.  End
