India week to Wed rainfall 26% above normal at 73.7 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 73.7 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 26% above the normal of 58.3 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said in a release Thursday. Rainfall was more than the long-period average in two of the four homogeneous regions and below average in the rest, the weather bureau said.

 

In central India, rainfall was 87% above average at 125.6 millimetres during the week, data from the bureau showed. Rainfall was 5% above the long-period average in northwest India at 40.7 millimetres. However, rainfall was 13% below the long-period average in south peninsular India at 37.1 millimetres. In east and northeast India, rainfall was 25% below the average at 73.3 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in eight, "excess" in seven, "normal" in seven, and "deficient" in 10. Four subdivisions received "large deficient" rainfall during the week.

 

From Jun. 1 to Jul. 9, the country has received 15% above normal rainfall at 273.9 millimetres, as per the data.  End
