--IMD: India Jun 1-Jul 10 rainfall at 283.5 mm, 14% above normal 

 

MUMBAI – India received 9.7 millimetres of rainfall Thursday, 5% above the normal 9.2 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Three of the four homogeneous regions of the country received below-normal rainfall, while one recorded above-normal rain.

 

Northwest India recorded 12.6 millimetres of rainfall, 93% above the normal 6.5 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in southern peninsular India was 53% below normal at 3.2 millimetres, and central India received 4% below-normal rain at 9.6 millimetres. Eastern and northeast India recorded 12.1 millimetres of rainfall, 22% below the normal of 15.6 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall Thursday was "large excess" in 10, "excess" in two, "normal" in five, "deficient" in eight, and "large deficient" in 11, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 283.5 millimetres of rain, 14% above the normal rainfall for the period, the data showed.  End
