MUMBAI – Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation lying over Punjab and its neighbourhood, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over most parts of north western India for the next two to three days, the India Meteorological Department said. A wet spell with thunderstorms and lightning is seen over the western Himalayan region and over several parts of the north western plains over the next seven days, the bureau said.

The weather department expects low to moderate risk of flash floods over a few watersheds and neighbourhood districts of Himachal Pradesh in the next 24 hours. These include districts such as Kinnaur, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur. The department has issued similar warnings for some districts in Jammu and Kashmir, which include Punch, Rajouri and Udhampur, and in Uttarakhand, which include Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Tehri Garwal, and Uttarkashi.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of east and central India in the next four to five days, the weather bureau said. In western India, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Konkan, Goa, and the ghat areas of central Maharashtra on Sunday and Monday, over parts of Gujarat from Saturday to Wednesday, and over parts of Saurashtra and Kutch on Sunday, the weather department said. Light to moderate rainfall is likely over the region in the next seven days, the department said.

Isolated heavy rainfall is seen over parts of Mizoram and Tripura from Sunday to Wednesday, over parts of Arunachal Pradesh from Friday to Wednesday, and over Assam and Meghalaya from Saturday to Wednesday, the weather bureau said. A wet spell with thunderstorms and lightning is seen over most of the Northeast in the next seven days, the bureau said.

In southern peninsular India, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of coastal Karnataka on Thursday and over parts of Kerala from Saturday to Wednesday. A wet spell is likely over Kerala, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana in the next seven days, the department said.  End
