NEW DELHI – Residents of Delhi and neighbouring regions felt strong tremors on Thursday morning due to an earthquake measuring 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale around 0904 IST, the National Center for Seismology said. The earthquake, with epicentre at Haryana's Jhajjar, was at a depth of 10 kilometres, the govenment's nodal agency for monitoring earthquakes said.
The tremors were felt in areas extending to Noida and Gurugram, with many residents stepping out of their homes. As soon as the tremors were felt, the National Disaster Response Force issued an advisory on the rules to follow before, during and after an earthquake to ensure saftey.
Delhi is an earthquake prone area with a low magnitude earthquake hitting it only a month back and a 4.0 magnitude earthquake in February. End
