IMD sees heavy to very heavy rain over parts of east, central India till Tue

MUMBAI – A low pressure area, currently lying over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand, is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh in the next two days, the India Meteorological Department said. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over most parts of east and central India till Tuesday, the weather department said.

 

Under the influence of the same weather system, extremely heavy rainfall was expected over parts of southeast Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and south Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, the department said, for which it issued a red alert. 

 

The weather department expected a moderate to high risk of flash floods over a few watersheds and neighbourhood districts of Chhattisgarh for the next 24 hours. These include districts such as Balarampur, Balod, Bemetara, Bilaspur, Dhamtari, Durg, Janjgir-Champa, Jashpur, Korba, Korea, Mahasamund, Mungeli, Raipur, Rajnandgaon, Surajpur, Kawardha, and Surguja.

 

The department has issued similar warnings for some districts in east Madhya Pradesh, which include Anuppur, Balaghat, Chhatarpur, Chhindwara, Damoh, Dindori, Jabalpur, Katni, Mandla, Narshimapura, Niwari, Panna, Sagar, Seoni, Shahdol, Singrauli, Tikamgarh and Umaria districts. Similar warnings have been issued for Bhandara, Gondiya, and Nagpur districts of Vidarbha.

 

A low to moderate risk of flash floods is also likely over a few districts of west Madhya Pradesh, such as Ashoknagar, Guna, Gwalior, Raisen, Sheopur, and Shivpuri, the department said.

 

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over several parts of northwest India till Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Heavy rainfall is seen over parts of northeast India in the same period, the bureau said.

 

In west India, heavy rainfall is seen over parts of Konkan, Goa, and Gujarat region till Tuesday, over the ghat areas of central Maharashtra till Thursday, and over Saurashtra and Kutch during the weekend, the bureau said. Light or moderate rainfall is likely over several parts of the region in the next seven days, the bureau said.

 

Heavy rainfall is expected over coastal Karnataka and Kerala till Tuesday, and over Telangana on Wednesday, the weather department said. A wet spell is likely over Kerala, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana in the next seven days, the department said.  End
