HYDERABAD - The Andhra Pradesh government has given its in-principle approval to the allotment of 25 acres to Hyderabad-based Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Ltd. to set up a hospital and medical college in Amaravati, a senior government official told Informist.

The Capital Region Development Authority--the nodal agency responsible for land allocation in Andhra Pradesh's greenfield capital city of Amaravati--has approved the proposal and has referred it to the state government for its final approval, the official said. The state cabinet is expected to clear the land allotment on Wednesday, the official added. Once the cabinet grants its approval, the allocation process will begin, the official said.

When contacted, Krishna Institute's Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Bhaskara Rao Bollineni said the company is waiting for the final allocation. Once the allocation is ratified, the company will get clarity on possible investments at Amaravati, he said, without divulging any financial details. Along with a teaching hospital, the company is also planning to set up a deemed university and a skill development center, he said.

The state government also did not disclose the proposed investment in the hospital and medical college. According to the official, current norms require a teaching hospital to have at least 300 beds, and this project may follow that minimum capacity.

The Andhra Pradesh government is actively developing infrastructure around its new capital city. It has asked all institutions which were allocated land in Amaravati to complete the construction within 36 months. The state government has already awarded various development projects worth over INR 400 billion through global tenders. As part of its integrated capital city development plan, the government is allotting land for hotels, hospitals, and convention centers.

At 1156 IST, shares of Krishna Institute traded 0.5% higher at INR 705 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
