NEW DELHI – Tata Steel Ltd.'s crude steel delivery volumes from its India and UK-based factories declined for the June quarter compared to the year-ago period, according to provisional data released by the company in a stock exchange filing Tuesday. However, the delivery volumes from the company's Netherlands- and Thailand-based factories inched up on a year-on-year basis.

Tata Steel's India crude steel deliveries in the June quarter fell nearly 4% on year to 4.75 million tonnes. The company's India crude steel production volume was flat at 5.26 million tonnes, it said in the exchange filing.

Out of domestic deliveries of 4.75 million tonnes, 1.60 million tonnes came from the company's industrial products and projects vertical. The company said this was driven by value accretive segments such as engineering and ready-to-use solutions. The branded products and retail vertical of the company recorded a delivery volume of 1.46 million tonnes. The company's automotive and special products vertical had a delivery volume of 0.77 million tonnes in the June quarter. The company said this vertical's deliveries were aided by 4% on-year growth in hi-end products.

Sequentially, the India delivery volume fell 15%. The production volume declined 3.3% on quarter. Tata Steel said production was affected by maintenance-related factory shutdowns in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand--for the reline of the G blast furnace--as well as at Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd.'s units during the quarter. "Operations have since resumed" at Neelachal Ispat's unit, and "the reline of the G blast furnace is progressing and is expected to be completed in July", the company said.

The delivery volume of Tata Steel's Dutch units inched up to 1.50 million tonnes in the June quarter from 1.47 million tonnes a year ago. The UK delivery volume declined to 600,000 tonnes from 680,000 tonnes, the company said. The Thai factories of Tata Steel recorded a delivery volume of 340,000 tonnes in the June quarter, up from 310,000 tonnes a year ago.

Tuesday, shares of Tata Steel closed at INR 161.97 on the National Stock Exchange, down 0.3% from the previous close.  End
