--IMD: India Jun 1-Jul 8 rainfall at 264.3 mm, 15% above normal 

 

MUMBAI – India received 10.5 millimetres of rainfall Tuesday, 19% above the normal of 8.8 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Despite three of the four homogenous regions in the country recording below-normal showers, the overall rainfall across the country remained above normal.

 

Central India is the only homogeneous region that received above-normal rainfall for the day. The region received 95% above-normal rainfall at 20.5 millimetres, according to the data. 

 

Meanwhile, rainfall in south peninsular India was 57% below normal at 2.7 millimetres, as per the data. East and northeast India received 25% below normal showers at 10.2 millimetres. Northwest India recorded 23% below normal rainfall at 4.5 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall Monday was 'large excess' in seven, 'excess' in three, 'normal' in four, 'deficient' in 11, and 'large deficient' in 11, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 264.3 millimetres of rain, 15% above normal for the period, the data showed.  End
