MUMBAI – India received 12.2 millimetres of rainfall Monday, 47% above the normal of 8.3 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. The overall rainfall across the country remained above normal despite three of the four homogeneous regions recording below normal rainfall.
Central India is the only homogeneous region that recorded above normal rainfall for the day. The region received 24.1 millimetres rainfall, which a whopping 145% above normal, according to the data. Of the 10 sub-divisions in the region, eights received "large excess" showers Monday. According to the department, a region will be categorised under "large excess", when the percentage departure of actual rainfall from normal in the region is 60% or more.
Meanwhile, east and northeast India received 30% below normal showers at 9.2 millimetres, the data showed. Northwest India received 8% below normal rainfall at 5.1 millimetres. Rainfall in south peninsular India was 16% below normal at 5.5 millimetres, as per the data.
Of the 36 sub-divisions, rainfall on Monday was 'large excess' in 13, 'excess' in two, 'normal' in seven, 'deficient' in four, and 'large deficient' in 10, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 254.0 millimetres of rain, 15% above normal for the period, the data showed. End
