MUMBAI – Sales volume of AWL Agri Business Ltd., formerly known as Adani Wilmar Ltd., fell 4% on year during the June quarter, dragged down mainly by a fall in rice volumes. Its revenue for the quarter, on other hand, rose 21% on year driven by higher edible oil realisations, the company said in an exchange filing Thursday.

The company faced multiple challenges during the quarter including muted consumer demand, strategic consolidation of regional rice operations, winding down of government-to-government rice sales, and fluctuations in edible oil prices, AWL Agri Business said.

During Apr-Jun, edible oil volume of AWL Agri Business fell 2% on year, due to continued pressure on palm oil sales. However, excluding palm oil, branded volumes registered a low single-digit growth, supported by continued strong performance in mustard oil. Consumer demand trends during the June quarter remained broadly consistent with the previous quarter, the company said. Edible oil sales during the quarter grew 28% on year. The company anticipate good growth in its edible oil business in the quarters ahead, with positive momentum on multiple fronts.

The company's food and fast-moving consumer goods segment reported a 13% on-year fall in revenue and 21% fall in volume during the quarter. Revenue from the industry essentials segment grew 15% on year during the June quarter, crossing INR 20 bln. Volumes in the segment grew 9% on year, driven by the growth in de-oiled cake business.

The company's quick commerce sales grew 75% on year in Apr-Jun highlighting continued consumer pull and brand strength of the portfolio, AWL Agri Business said. In the general trade channel, the company said it is now focused on driving higher throughput from the newly added towns and outlets. In the last twelve months, branded exports volume grew 22% on year surpassing INR 3 billion revenue.

AWL Agri Business reported a consolidated net profit of INR 1.90 billion for the March quarter on revenue of INR 182.30 billion. On Thursday, shares of the company closed at INR 256.65 on the National Stock Exchange, down 0.3%.  End
