NEW DELHI - The government has imposed countervailing duty on the import of continuous cast copper wire rods from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The duty has been levied for five years, the finance ministry said in a notification Thursday.

Imports of continuous cast copper wire rods from these four countries will face a countervailing duty between 3.46% and 10.27% of the landed value, according to the notification. Imports from Malaysia will face the highest duty of 10.27%.

The Directorate General of Trade Remedies had in April recommended continued imposition of countervailing duty on imports of continuous cast copper wire rods originating in or exported from the four southeast Asian countries.

The government had originally imposed countervailing duty on the import of continuous cast copper wire rods from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam in January 2020 for five years. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies said cessation of the duty is "likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of subsidization and injury to the domestic industry".  End
