NEW DELHI – India's employment-linked incentive scheme is a step towards raising youth employment, International Labour Organization has said.

"ILO's (International Labour Organization) global evidence suggests that Active Labour Market Policies (ALMP) if designed appropriately can improve youth employment outcomes," the labour body Wednesday said in a post on social media platform X. "India's ELI (employment-linked incentive) scheme is a notable policy development in this direction."

The Union Cabinet Tuesday approved the employment-linked incentive scheme to increase job creation in the country. The scheme is expected to created more than 35 million jobs in two years and has an outlay of INR 994.46 billion. The scheme has two parts, one focussing on first time employees, and another on employers.

The first-time employees registered with Employees' Provident Fund Organisation and with salaries up to INR 100,000 will get one month's wage up to INR 15,000 in two instalments under the scheme. In the second part of the scheme, employers will get incentives for a period to two years for generating additional employment, with extended benefits for another two years for the manufacturing sector.  End
