India week to Wed rainfall 19% above normal at 64.3 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 64.3 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 19% above the normal of 53.9 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. Rainfall was more than the long-period average in three of the four homogeneous regions and below average in one, the weather bureau said.

 

In central India, rainfall was 49% above-average at 91.9 millimetres during the week, data from the bureau showed. Rainfall was 57% above the long-period average in northwest India at 49.7 millimetres. Rainfall was 9% above the long-period average in south peninsular India at 44.7 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 40% below the average at 58.0 millimetres, the weather bureau said.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 13 and "excess" in six during the week. Rainfall was "normal" in eight subdivisions and "deficient" in five. Four subdivisions received "large deficient" rainfall during the week.

 

Since Jun. 1, the country has received 11% above normal rainfall at 200.1 millimetres, the data showed.  End
