MUMBAI – India Wednesday received 9.5 millimetres of rainfall, 20% above the normal of 7.9 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions, three received above-normal rainfall and one below normal showers.
Northwest India received 44% above normal rains at 6.5 millimetres. Rainfall in central India was also up by 44% at 13.2 millimetres, the data showed. The southern peninsula recorded 8.4 millimetres of rainfall, 42% above the normal of 5.9 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 38% below normal at 8.9 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall on Wednesday was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in three, "normal" in eight, "deficient" in nine, and "large deficient" in seven, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 11% above normal rainfall at 200.1 millimetres, the data showed. End
